I feel that, although ive been doing this for 6 year or so, that im relatively new 2 the hobby. I guess im grouped up with the new age of collecting.
Whilst i collect Morgans avidly, im not one to fill Whitmans/Danscos exclusively, i like 2 add 2 my collection as i please. Im not bound by any chains. I collect what i want, when i want. I am in my element, when i am at a show, and buy anything that jumps out of the case at me. Yes, i have sort of a mixed bag, that i call a toned type set, but i have coins from different countries in there as well. Im also a huge fan of casino related tokens/chips/silver strikes. Anywho, years ago, i tried 2 put together a volume 1 Washington album. I quickly learned that, i was buying dawgs just to fill holes, and liquidated before even the halfway mark so 2 speak. Havent filled a hole since, until 2 weeks ago that is.
I have about $7 invested in this, (holder included) 20171227_183912.jpg 20171227_183641.jpg 20171227_183834.jpg and i must say it was sort of rewarding, almost soothing even.

    What say ye ??

I’m completely like you, I tried the set thing at first and got bored and was making some purchases just to fill it. I tried the type set too which I liked a lot better, but there were just some series I couldn’t get excited about. Now I just get whatever I want including foreign coins if I like them. Seated Libertys are still my favorite, but I’ve been enjoying it a lot more not being bound by any sets.

    I collect Peace Dollars exclusively.
My last four purchases have been Walking Halves.

I love that steel cent set! Are those re-plated or not? Steel cents are probably one of my favorite moderns of all time. I'm going to get a set of all three MS+ (eventually :D).

    Thanks,
    Jacob

Collecting albums is fine if they’re done over time. It takes several years to complete a nicely matched set, so I usually have a few going at any given time. I’m doing Braided hair large and half cents primarily, but am always looking to add something to any of the other forty or so albums that I have. It’s really just the nature of collecting progressed for me. I had several three ring binders full of random coins and eventually wanted to better organize them. This was my large cent date set as it stood for a bit, but I have replaced a few and have added several of the major varieties.

I was all over the place just buying early coins with great eye appeal. Was trying to do all the cc Morgans in ms a complete us type set a classic head on gold type set too trade dollars bust and flowing hair dollars some colonials. Some monster toned Morgans and whatever else I liked. And just said screw it and became a dealer. Down to my trade dollar set just the key pieces and some of the core of my type set and a couple other coins I like everything else is for sale. I basically have one blue box I keep that’s it right now

That's a nice collection of large cents! Puts what I have to shame.

They are all original AU/Unc but the philly example has a black environmental damaged reverse. I replaced the D & S coins from a dealers long box at a show, and kept the philly 2 make a decently matched set
