This 1984 D/D Kennedy (still in government plastic) appears to have something going on with the "D" & 4. I have more than a couple mint sets for this year and none of them have this no matter what angle the lighting is from. It's almost like they were added in silver after the fact which I know is impossible. Ideas???
Looks like the "198" were punched lighter or struck thru grease and are not as bold as the 4 and the mintmark.
Welcome @Double Die Your name is incorrect.. The correct numismatic terminology is Doubled Die and not double die.. You should of looked that up before choosing that name
Don't have a clue about what the "D" and 4 difference could be, but I think C-B-D may be on the right track. One thing I WOULD do-take the coin out of the plastic! I don't know what packaging the Mint used in 1984 but I'll bet it's PVC as the coin looks like it's developing the "green slime" associated with long storage in PVC. Dip it if you want to, rinse, then let sit in either alcohol or witch hazel for awhile to make sure all the residue is gone, then pat-dry with a soft cloth.
Thanks for pointing that out but I wasn't going for %100 accuracy, just a catchy moniker. Also, the correct syntax is "you should HAVE looked that up..." if we want to be picky? LOL
Well played, sir. Bravo! Welcome to the forum.... you should of joined sooner; you would of loved Detecto.
I can abuse the English language with the best of them, but if I'm going under the bus, someone is definitely going with me. Thanks all for the warm reception.
Paddy meant absolutely no harm when pointing out the correct terminology. Perhaps you were familiar, but not everyone is and is why takes the time to clarify and to hopefully educate. It really is a no harm, no foul kind of thing.
Kripes.......and I hate going 'under the bus'.........that blasted, bloody hurts. Welcome semi-old guy Double-Die.......
It's all good, I just have a sarcastic side that doesn't always come across in text. Inflection is everything.
