This Wheatie is worn however the question I have is. The penny has no mint mark is that common back then?.I hope everyone had a great Christmas!!! Ho ho ho lol
No Mint Mark means it was Minted at the Philadelphia Mint No Cent minted at Philadelphia has ever used a Mint Mark until this year 2017 http://www.cointrackers.com/coins/13584/1941-wheat-penny
......and it is my understanding that the Mint will discontinue using the Philly mintmark in 2018. I can't tell you why because I don't collect Lincolns. However, if this is true, then everyone should be on the lookout for 2018 Lincoln cents that bear the "P" mintmark. They could be worth a bundle. Chris
Well thank you very much Mr Cris I appreciate the information you do give me thanks and happy holidays to u and everyone else
Considering that the mintmarks are added in the die, if there is a coin with a P mint mark, wouldn't there be plenty of others?
......only until the oversight is caught by a Mint employee. That could be after a "run" of a few coins or a few thousand coins. If a very large amount is discovered, it is very possible that the whole batch struck with the incorrect die would be destroyed. If just a few were discovered, they may decide not to destroy a whole batch. Chris
Yes, but you neglected to tell him that a 2018P with the mintmark could be worth a "pretty penny". Anyway, with your luck, you'll probably go out metal detecting and find a whole box of 2018P rolls. Chris
