Now, I'm new to this so I'm terribly sorry if I've gotten annoying. I tried to study it before posting it just to see if I could tell but I can't be 100% certain. I guess I'm a fish in a pond full of trout lol. So, bare with me please and if you wish to bash on me then go for it I was a Correctional Officer at a level 4 men's state prison in AZ so you best pack a lunch and bring plenty of friends if you want to hurt this girl's feelings as I'm not 100% certain I'm capable of them anymore lol.

K, the only part that had me confused was how it seems to be the same thickness all the way across. So how do you tell that? Just so I know.

That poor Quarter was crushed somehow.. in a vise or clamp or griping tool
Only the person who did it after it left the Mint would know how it was done.

To determine if a coin in an error or pmd, you got to ask yourself:

"Did this coin come out like this out of the mint?"

"Was this damage the result of the minting process?"

Is there a set of dies that looks like this?

Geez! I guess I'd better be careful how I explain this. I wouldn't want to be thrown in the hole for 30 days.

First of all, there are a few one-of-a-kind errors that come from the mint......things like a strikethrough or a lamination error.......but most errors are usually produced in volume......like clashes or die breaks. The point is that your coin couldn't possibly be a one-of-a-kind error because there are just too many things wrong with it on both sides. There is no way that so many errors could occur on the anvil die and the hammer die at the same time. However, let's assume that both dies were defective. How is it possible that a coin in such terrible condition was not produced in the thousands and only now that it has been discovered. That would be like the entire inmate population of an Arizona prison escaping and remaining on the run for 9 years. Impossible!

Of course, this is just my opinion, but your coin looks like it suffered a severe case of road rash more than once.

LoL, sounds good. Good explanation and thank you. Consider this a warning now... LoL.

Guess it's time to go to the Mint and take a tour again. Last time I did that I think I was like 12 and I'm 45 now so... I would have paid a whole hell of a lot better attention had I known wayyyy back then that I would be so fascinated with them at my current age. I'll post a few pics of some of my favorite coins I have. I just started the coin roll cherry picking side of things. Everything else has been handed down to me. I'm loving it though. And being in Denver makes it even more interesting to me. But please forgive my shit picture quality. I'll get some pics uploaded here in a few minutes of a handful of mine. My grandmother was from India so I have some pretty interesting ones (in my opinion anyways).

Do they still do yours at the mint?
