I am new to the coin world so you'll have to excuse any ignorance or lack of terminology I may have, I recently came across this 1990 d penny that caught my eye, if you'll notice the letters in "states of" seem to fade away, but it doesn't seem to be wear because nothing else is worn around it, your input wou
This is known as a grease filled die and it happens when the coin’s details are not defined due to it being struck through excess grease. It is a mint error but it’s not worth any more than a cent because this is a very common error.
First, welcome to the neighborhood! Learning about error coins is not as easy as some people might think. That is because there are, literally, millions and millions of coins in circulation with similar errors that aren't specifically identified in a Google search. With that said, I noticed that your images lack contrast, probably due to over-exposure. It may be that you're allowing too much light to hit the subject, the position of the lighting needs to be adjusted or a little of both. It would also help if you cropped out the unnecessary background before resizing your image. Just some food for thought. Chris
I have a possible omm on a 1938s jefferson nickel. I know ngc and pcgs have not attributed this date and mint mark that i can find. But i was wondering if the idea might raise an ear from anyone. I have not posted on the forum before so i am terrible at best so far. I have had the coin for 30 years probably and have sort of rediscovered it with mini 60x lighted scope in hand now.
@jake1932 First, welcome to the neighborhood! I cannot tell anything from this photo. No offense intended, but this method of taking a close-up is not very good. Also, it is considered impolite to hijack another thread. It is best if you start your own thread. Chris
What does your Nickel have anything to do with the Cent in question? As stated.. start your own unique thread.
i'm trying to figure out how to do that. I started a conversation (possibility of a 1938s jefferson omm). Nevertheless, i guess kick the new guy in the knee.
Yeah! That's right! We like to see people limping around. To start a new thread, click on the appropriate forum, Error Coins, US Coins, etc., then click on the blue box at the top-right of the page. Give your thread an appropriate title and start typing. To add photos, click on "Upload a File" at the bottom of your thread, and select images from your computer. Be sure to select "Full Image" for each photo. The "Thumbnail" really sucks. Chris
Thanks Chris!! I didnt get a copy of the instruction manual on how to drive this thing!! I got it now maybe.......
Don’t worry you’ll get it. It takes a minute. So much to learn about this hobby. Who knew that P’s and Q’s ARE almost as important as the coins themselves. Don’t feel bad both @cpm9ball and @paddyman98 have schooled me as well, hell I think they have gotten most at some point. THAT is why we come to this site....to learn. Shrug it off if these guys kick ya you’ll know it for sure. Hope this helps, Reed.
@Jweldtech Welcome to CT...aka the numismatic nut house! BTW...it's a CENT, not a penny...this is a Penny...a very pretty Penny. Best collecting to all!
