OK. I gotta argue over this one. Isn't this coin a solid VG? The ANA Grading Standards book says for VG "Entire head is weak, and most details in the wing are worn smooth". The wing has more detail than the book asks for in that regard. For the reverse it says, again VG "Half the vertical lines are visible, rims complete" and it looks like this measures up in that regard. What am I missing? Obviously you guys have paid your dues learning the series, so I stand poised to learn. Thanks- Mike
I would say that the obverse shows F-12 detail. As for the revers VG detail. So I would have to say VG-8. Lou
The rims are not complete. They are worn flat in some spots. Look at 6 o'clock on the obverse and 12 & 6 on the reverse. And if the rims are not complete, G is the best it can get.
GDJMSP- Thanks again! I saw what I wanted to see- something I am particularly fond of with the 1916 issue in particular. I'll bet I have seen a dozen 16-D's over the years. Thx- Mike
Look at the washed out Reverse Rim and look how washed out the details are. Either it was a poor strike to begin with or its a G. There is some uneven wear but this coin is G Mercury and the otherone is a VG. These are very delicate designs. What you think of as detail and what is detail is two different things. Ruben
