This holiday season I was gifted with another coin from a fellow collector here. I know who it is but if he wants to reveal himself, he can. I was pleasantly surprised to get a comic book and this Parthian. I have been thinking of adding a Parthian or 2, just to have some examples. I really like the original crust on it. Thank you again! Vologases III (105 - 147 A.D.) AR Drachm O: Bstylized bust of the king with long pointed beard left, earring visible. R: archer sitting right. Under the bow monogram (AΓT). Unreadable inscription in seven lines. 3.71g 21mm Sellwood 78.2
Beware of Parthian gold coins. The ones I have seen have been silver drachms plated for the modern market. There are wonderful coins in silver and bronze. Finding mint state bronzes will be an effort. I have seen very few VF. High end billon tetradrachms sell for gold prices. If anyone wants to get me a present, this one would do quite nicely. http://images.goldbergauctions.com/php/lot_auc.php?site=1&sale=83&lot=305&lang=1
I may have the same issue or King anyway- on this here coin but I lost the slip from many years ago and now I think I have the details! Looks pretty close to me if there are any experts who see differently @Parthicus please let me know. Thanks Or maybe not? now that I look at them again here online, oh well
Mike, that's a Sellwood 78, Vologases III (Sellwood), more recently reattributed to Pacorus I (Assar). Mat's coin is actually Vologases I, a Sellwood 70.13.
