Hoping I've made my first find. Not in the greatest shape but I'm pretty sure it is doubled. I've found what I believe are the die markers as well. Looking for other opinions. Thanks in advance for any feedback
When you light it from the right side, I can see the flattened ridge on the date as well as the back of the head. With light from the other positions, it isn't really visible, so I see no true hub doubling, just some machine doubling damage which is no premium usually. Jim
This one you can see it along the side of the left profile. It continues all along the left side of his face but it is hard to get it to show up in pics. But look at his eye in this one also:
I can't tell about the eye without a better close-up. The profile definitely isn't. Check out this doubling of the profile of a Kennedy half dollar.
Now I will not say I'm 100%. But it is awesome to look at. With coin in hand I can make out most of it without a magnifying glass. The difference between other coins I thought were doubled and this one are drastic. But still not a full month of experience looking at coins so maybe I'm wrong. I happen to have 3 other 1965 quarters in my possession atm and it is not present on them. Was worried I was tricking myself with lighting but I can't make it happen on these others
May I ask where this photo came from? Also, a coin can display more than one form of "doubling".... look closely.
That is from pcgs. Apologies, I should have credited them. Below I'll provide a link to their site. And below that a link to the same error on Mr. Wexler's page. http://www.pcgscoinfacts.com/Coin/Detail/147196 http://doubleddie.com/980499.html
Be careful with markers. While very useful for positively identifying varieties, the doubling (or whatever) must be present, and as with markers, must be exact matches.
Here is another pic. Btw, thank you for all the responses so far. Trying to get a better shot of what I am seeing in person. I hope no one takes offense. I don't mean to doubt your eyes as much as I'm worried it is getting lost in the translation of my poor photography. Below I've put arrows to try and better point out what I'm seeing as 2 distinct eye lines:
