Okay everyone bare with me I'm fairly new to this but I did find something very very interesting I received from change this morning when I was at my local store so 1979 D quarter and the pictures that I want to post all so bear with me the best I could do but you'll see what I'm talking about there's another face in front of George Washington's face there's letters all around the rim can't really make them out but you can see that there was another coin there before the quarter was stamped anybody have any information about it it would be greatly appreciated
I have absolutely no idea what you're seeing. All I see is an old, well worn quarter worth 25 cents. Spend it.
Like I said my pictures may not be the best just zoom in on some of them and look at the outside of the coin
I see circulation wear BUT I also see what looks like an o e s next to the date in image #4. THIS IS JUST CIRCULATION WEAR NOTHING MORE. but I do see it! Worth=$.25 nothing special. Hope this helps. Reed
All I see is a very minor MAD (misaligned die). Try researching the types of mint errors, learning more about them, and practice discerning circulation damage from mint errors. This is a normal quarter.
It sounds like he thinks it is an overstrike (a coin was struck, and then sent back through and a new coin was struck over the top).
There might be something going on there but I can't tell from these pictures. It's unlikely to be an overstrike but hardly impossible.
Geeze, catch your breath, that's one long sentence! And those photos are hard to diagnose anything on. Just think if a doctor was supplied x-rays like that, he'd be misdiagnosing. You need an answer, though, I don't see anything, either.
The last photo you posted shows the most detail of what you are seeing and it really is a bad photo. I believe what you have is a die clash. Clear photos of the whole coin including the reverse would help. If it actually is a die clash, they are really cool but not very rare and don't add a lot of value, especially to a well circulated coin such as this one.
