Point well taken, Conder. I just though it would be neat to have coins with the original (or similar)designs, but with modern dates. Maybe something different each year. A reissue as a special comemmorative or such, like with the mercury dime design, except using similar alloys and sized as the originals were. And most definately in the same relief as well, not in the crappy low relief they currently use. IMO, most (if not all) of the coinage before the 1980's or thereabouts just had designs that stood out, or had depth, and character too. Most of the newest stuff just seems too busy to me.
Nah, I'm all for Miss Liberty gracing our coins again, but I want new designs. The old designs were interesting, beautiful, or reflective of their times, but they've been done before. Miss Liberty is currently in hospice, but she can be new again. Let's get some new designs, reflective of our current time. Unfortunately, however, dead people will always cloud our currency. The special interests are too strong.... you try taking Washington off a coin!
Another problem I’ve seen in restrikes of the classic coins (pre 1892 ) and especially pre 1830 the modern manufacturing processes make the coins look too perfect and too sharp. And so many newer coins have such low relief. Plus there’s hardly any die variations. I prefer the earlier stuff so much better. Especially the open collar strikes
The dime would be my first choice to go. Talk about a bland design that has been around to long. At least they tried to spruce up the quarters and have been successful with some of them. Then again we gotta be careful what we wish for, look what happened to the cent and nickel when they changed it
