Hi all, A co-worker gave me a nice gift today for Christmas. He knows I like coins! I will keep it in the package for now -
It's the thought that counts. And that poor fellow probably overpaid somewhat. What a generous gift........
This is an American Silver Eagle (ASE) which is a bullion coin struck by the mint for collectors. They are available in uncirculated, burnished and proof versions and have a year designated so some people collect the series.
These guys need to stop. Do you think your friend cared about the cost or that it was your pefect gift
Not to put too fine of a point on it, but... This is a bullion coin that is struck by the US Mint to be sold by dealers as a precious metal coin. The intended purpose of this coin has nothing to do with collectors or collecting. We just collect them because they’re beautiful and it’s our shortcoming. It should not be confused with the burnished and proof issues of the same coin which are struck for collectors, but are easily distinguished by their Mint mark. (The bullion coins lack a Mint mark)
