Some terrific coins there, AA. I've always admired your architectural reverse focus and the ones here are all very interesting. I still have the aerial perspective of Nicomedia city walls type on my want list, as well as the Mopsus bridge and arches. My favorite is probably the rare Parium arch.
Yes, but which one to take out ? That's difficult...and unfair for the poor, poor eleventh I love the style on the Faustina, and the two SS/architecture are very interesting Quite a bunch of nice stuff for you this year Q
I LOVE the reverse devices and each would have caught my eye because of them My favorites are #'s 1, 5, 6 and 10
Very nice! I have a fondness for architecture on coins, but havent delved in to that much. I quite like #3 with the river god
Like 'em ALL! Well done @Ancient Aussie ! I would have each and every one in my collection! I was particularly drawn to your #1, as I enjoy collecting the Republic, and I have one also! That's a great coin of the variety of my coin, it looks like they decided to have another variety as they moved to re- value from 12 As mine to 16 As yours.
Yeah, the transition from 10 As to 16 As was murky - X to Ж (sideways). The AR Sestertius had IIS (2 Asses and a Semis), and the Quinarius was a V (5). Later, when they retarrifed to 16 Asses to a Denarius, IIS and V were used when they were AR, then all changed when Augustus made the Sestertius AE, and eliminated V on Quinarii. I really like your strategy of collecting architecture AA. There are some fascinating things to be learned considering many of the buildings shown are complete gone without a trace. Of these I think your #3 is my favorite. I think as a bridge engineer I am biased though...
I know another guy that collects architectural Roman Provincials. I think he would like some of your coins. Those are rare and expensive and I don't have any at all. I know there are some affordable types. Those are very nice coins for sure.
Really like all the architectural coins!! It is an area that is lacking in my collection! The two Sept Sev's are really cool and the Valerian is just the ticket for a great 3rd century set.
