Desktop LED photographic lighting question

Still waiting on the lights. But I did pick up some ping pong balls today. Got 6 white ones for a $1 at the thrift store today. We will see how well these work.

let me know. I ordered lamps, but plan on using a different diffuser.

 

Ok my lights came in and I'm on the fence on these. They seem to put out a yellow light. My old lights were geared more towards the white light.

Here is a photo of the same coin under both setups for comparison. The Jansjos are diffused with white ping pong balls, but taking them off makes no difference in light color.

I will say that the Jansjos do more accurately show the toning on the edges, but this coin is BU and does not look yellow in hand at all.

Not too sure I am going to keep these for very long.

What do you all think?

 

I think you need to set your white balance with a white card in place instead of coins, then try again.

 

I messed with my white balance on my camera. Need a little more adjustment,but batt died on camera.

It is getting closer.

 

This was gonna be my next step, but my camera battery was running very low. Gotta wait till it charges now The latest photo is with the camera set on "Tungsten" lighting.

 

Obviously I can't "know", but that last one of the 1964 1000 yen just whispers "This is the real me" to me. Notice how the highlight swirls lack an obvious color. That's a good sign.

 

IIRC the Jansjos are about 3000K vs. daylight/Ott which is about 5000K which would explain the look.

When messing with my camera (Canon) using the desktop software I set the light to 'tungsten' and that corrected the Jansjos pretty well. When I looked up tungsten it was 'tungsten/halogen' and 3200K. Now that I'm trying other lights I'll have to figure out the way to set the light by actual numbers instead of picking the closest preload.

 

Okay so I did a custon White balance with a white board. What a difference. I think these will work.

What Canon do you use? Mine is an Eos Rebel T3 and it is pretty easy to do a custom white balance on it. I can probably help ya out here.
