One thing keeping me from getting coins graded...

Kurt I have no problem with you saying that NGC and PCGS are by far the better TPGs - have said the same thing myself more times than I can count.

But that has absolutely nothing to do with the point I was making.

For the color being yellow, if you look at the clear plastic holding the coin, it also looks yellow. Must be the lighting. This coin looks good imo

I'm opening a new coin grading service:

    AU58: $10.00 per coin
    MS63: $20.00 per coin
    MS65: $30.00 per coin
    MS71: $100.00 per coin

Why you should use the GGS TPG:
1: No anxiety: You know in advance what grade you'll receive.
2: Timely/Cost Effective: No need to constantly resubmit for regrading.
3: Fast: You don't send in the coins, just place an order and I'll mail you the cases, stickers, and a brand new special edition numanistic felt tip marker.

Amen. Kurt, I cannot for the life of me understand how you don't understand this simple fact.

Over the decades, top professional graders/authenticators have switched the TPGS's they work for. Some even return to the one they left! Their skill level and ranking among other peers does not change due to where they work. I have interacted with some of these guys. In class, one related how "good" he felt each morning he saw the name of his "latest" TPGS employer as he entered the building.

Perhaps you should adjust your thinking. Hate the TPGS, yet respect the skill level of those who have earned the right to work at the "top." Their training continues each day looking at many hundreds of different coins. Think of that. Each day they absorb more experience than most collectors due in a year.

I'm sure we can work something out.
Unlike the regular TPGs we put the word 'service' in 'service'.

We have a Gold Club program: Exclusive to Gold Clubbers!
We'll replace the MS in a grade with your initials. For example: 'Kurt Bellman' would get coins graded as KB65, KB66, etc. This is VERY exciting. Please note, if your initials are MS you're automatically in the club at a 50% discount!

Oo..Oo..Oo...... I want the VKB sticker option. Sign me up for two memberships.
Do you think Mr. Grumpy pants will sign my stickers for me?
You know how he loves the Lucite so. I figured he would love for his signature to be forever trapped in some.

I think what he’s saying is for the end product that just doesn’t matter. You could take the best of the best and make an all star team but if they’re at a company whose standards make them grade a certain way their skill level is needed while they work.

I’m sure there are guys at the other ones who could work at the tier one TPGs, but until they do we don’t have to like the company standard grading their company requires at their current jobs.

Again, we are not discussing the approval ratings of the first or second TPGS. The commercial market has voted.

This discussion is about the graders. IMO, the grading done at all four major services is very similar when considered as a whole.

I also believe that you can take ANY of the finalizers at any TPGS and move them to another and nothing about their skill level would change. Example, Randy at ICG (second tier TPGS) could work at PCGS and Rick at NGC could work at ANACS. Well he could, but he would not like the huge pay cut. :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious: If these two changes happened today, nothing would change at either PCGS or ANACS!

Apparently, Kurt :wacky::confused: does not believe this. He wrote :yack::yack::yack: that the folks at NGC and PCGS are the "bomb" and the other graders are just the "smell" from the bomb's smoke. Oh my. :vomit:

Okay how’s this sound, I’m sure if customers like this idea ALL the TPG firms would formulate a plan Toot sweet.

    Triple grading.
Charge the customer/submitter 2X the normal cost of a regular strait slab.
Run the coin past three teams of graders over three weeks one team each week.
Average all the scores for final grade.
No grading team knows who else graded them or when or if.
Number scores of the coins will be processed by a fourth team of two.
    ABSOLUTELY NO BIAS.
Not to darn hard IMO. It’s just going to take longer and make the TPG’s more money!

If you're a 'buy the coin and not the slab' kind of guy the differences between the grading services is moot; however, the perceived differences become an opportunity for picking up some bargains.

Incidentally, the whole CAC thing should pretty much clue everyone in to how ridiculous this is all getting. A second service to verify the first service? Someone please tell me that is a joke - honestly, it would be cheaper to just learn how to grade yourself. How many clowns have to look at a coin to figure out its grade?

Yes, I'm new to coin grading and I've much to learn but already I've seen coins (in every holder imaginable) that I've considered to be over graded. I could be wrong, but it is the kind of wrong where I don't spend money so I can live with that.

I'm hoping to take one or two classes with my father in the summer.
I'm sure it will be an eye opener.

Get the SOOPER-DOOPER GUARANTEED grade where the coin is graded via Ouija board communication with the people who actually minted the coin! (1) For those of you with a religious bent get the ANGELIC HOSTS package where 10,000 angels reach a consensus on the grade of your coin and write it in lamb's blood on parchment.

    NOTES
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
1: For obvious reasons this service isn't available for recently minted coins.

Either you buy them or you don’t. I am lucky enough that I don’t have to buy slabbed coins because of the way I collect. I almost bought a nice error cent in a slab so I could free him into my collection but passed. I just didn’t want to pay the $250.00 over what I felt it should be worth raw just for the Lucite, Mylar and ink.

So darn hard to hit that color just right. That’s why some people pay to have images shot for them.
