I have here, what I am fairly certain is, a Roman provincial coin. I got it for it's beautiful patina that is greener than Attila the hun right before he died! However, I am limited in my provincial knowledge. Can anyone help me ID this coin? Thanks in advance.
A coin from nicaea, bithynia. Possibly Severus Alexander or Gordian, both are common for this type. I like these coins, hard to come by in great condition
Nailed it! Thanks. Here is what was in wild winds: Nicaea. Severus Alexander. Æ 19. A.D. 222-235. Obv: M AVP CEVH ALEZANDPOC AV. Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev: N / IK/AI/ E between three standards, WN in ex.
Nice coloring. I love provincials, they are more mysterious than imperials. Imperials are cool for their history, of course. John
Yep, nice patina! SEVERUS ALEXANDER AE20 OBVERSE: M AVP CEVH ALEXANDROC AV, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right REVERSE: N-IK-AI-E / WN between and beneath three standards Struck at Nicaea, 222-235 AD 3.8g, 20mm BMC 103
Wow! Yours all have that same beautiful patina but much more detail. They even have the same weird Greek spelling of Alexander as ALEZANPOC.
