I got this in change yesterday and noticed what looks like feeder finger errors on the reverse... in water before flag, behind boys neck and cap and the left side of the building. If not feeder fingers, could this type of damage been done on the die itself? Also, misaligned die. 2017fullreverse.jpg 2017obversefull.jpg

    Yes to Misaligned Die Strike
No to feeder finger damage. Maybe just a Worn Die issue.

I agree that the parallel lines probably were not caused by feeder fingers, but isn't it possible that they were caused in an attempt to clean the face of the die with a wire brush?

I am beginning to think these are stressed metal artifacts of some sort. They almost always appear from under a central device and radiate in basically one direction from that area. The appearance seems to be evenly spaced, yet from what I have seen of labeled feeder finger damage, the ones on this coin have lines that are too close together and there are too many lines. The lines also don't seem to go to an edge, which I imagine they would if it was feeder fingers.

I am wondering if excessive use of some dies at perhaps the wrong setting is causing a structural failure of the die that first manifests with lines like these instead of the die breaking or shattering. Although, I guess it could be some sort of polishing, if a person is doing the polishing with a tool, would not the examples being shown recently have more variation ? And if it is polishing and it is a stationary machine the die is put in, why would it be so uniform right in the middle, as if the only polishing is being done under the device? It does not look like polishing I have seen on some coins where it looks like perhaps the die was being buffed to remove clash marks.

Granted, it is confusing, but is it not somewhat similar to this Sac dollar? Please note that I have 11 of these.

^^ I am not sure, looks a lot like, but on this one I would feel more comfortable saying yay/nay if I could blow it up more, and I need to be on a different computer for that.

Just looked at your sac dollar. It looks somewhat similar, but it is not radiating from under the central device and the lines look possibly a little different. Hard to say. I will have to take this into account when I look at some I have in hand rather than on pics on a screen.

In my opinion this is definitely feeder finger damage. An extreme case as well. Very cool.
I have been collecting all of these I can find.
    Mostly on Lincoln cents.
