I recently came across a 1943 Mercury Dime where the numbers 3 and 4 seem to be pushed together. Does this look unusual?
I doubt if anyone would counterfeit a lowly dime. This was in a bag of dimes that I bought in 1982 or 1983. I guess we all agree that the numbers look unusual. Has anyone seen a similar example?
Maybe Larry is correct. Maybe this is the way that it is supposed to look (per PCGS CoinFacts). But it still looks different from the other 1943 dimes that I have
In 1943 a dime wasn't that "lowly". It would have had roughly the same purchasing power that a $10 bill does today. Counterfeiting a $10 is reasonable.
