So, as the year draws to a close...I have been thinking back about the new additions to my collection. I thought it would be fun to see various members favorite budget purchases. So, post your favorite purchase from 2017 that cost under $100.

Here is mine. This is a 1949-J 5 Pfennig coin from Germany. I love this coin because it is an early reform currency issue...which is why it was "Bank Deutscher Lander " on the obverse rather than the normal "Bundesrepublik Deutschland."

I have wanted one of these coins for a while but I was waiting for the right example. I paid a bit of a premium for this one, but it has strong PL features and really pop in hand. It's one of the nicest examples of the type I have seen. I bought it from a dealer I have used many times and he graded it MS-63PL and I agree with his assessment. I paid $75 for this coin...which is high in my opinion but it's a very nice premium example and worth the cost.

It was hard to photograph to get the PL features to show...and I didn't take it out of the airtite and there are some marks on the holder. But, here it is:
