That is a very nice coin, 1921 are easily available in bu condition., if coin was artificially toned is a mystery, (very easy to accomplish) I would say a coin like that would bring probably about $165 .00

The coin is actually a 1944-D 5FS but it resides in a generation 8 slab from 2000 before NGC recognized coins with 5 full steps. Until 2002, NGC only considered coins with 6 complete steps and only used the FS designation.

I never sent the coin back to NGC because not only would it lose the generation 8 slab, it would also lose the T designation, and 5FS designation doesn't add much value to an untoned 44-D and would add absolutely no value to a monster toner like this one.

 

Yes, the NGC 8 was only used for about 4 weeks, in August and September of 2000. It is a rare slab - but slab collectors seem to focus on the earliest generations and ignore this slab. This is the only slab with those small numbers underneath the barcode.

I've seen those slabs with the T designation but could not figure out exactly what it stood for. The first few I saw were blast white coins.
