Have had this for a while and I just can't find the proper attribution for it. Couldn't find it in the normal search sites and it doesn't seem to be in the BMC for Caria. Hopefully someone in CoinTalk-land can help me out. Here it is: Obverse shows a bust of Herakles with lion skin tied around his neck and the reverse is ??? with KΩI - ΩN across the field. It's a big coin at 31mm (Ae 1.2). Any ideas?
Hi Brian, https://www.cointalk.com/members/ed-snible.82322/ would know I bet. BTW- thanks for the bonus Nero coin. Just gave it as a gift to a thirteen year old with the page explaining the year count. i am sure he is thrilled. It is great to pay it forward
I have no clue! In BMC, plate XXXIII #11, we see a similar reverse on an AE@@@ of Antoninus Pius https://books.google.com/books?id=O9stAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA393#v=onepage&q&f=false Plate XXXIII also shows some Herakles obverses dated to "Imperial Times", but not with this reverse. The Pius coin is BMC 244, 30.5mm in diameter, and is described at https://books.google.com/books?id=O9stAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA219#v=onepage&q&f=false Nothing in Isegrim. 4 coins with this inscription and a patera on the reverse according to Isegrim. Check out my new Isegrim tool that allows direct linking to Isegrim results: http://isegrim.mybluemix.net/#!?m=AE&gr1=28&rs=KWIWN&ra=PATERA
Thanks Ed. Excellent information. I guess it's possible it's not a published issue. Doesn't happen often, but every now and then ....
Wow, I don't frequent Forvm and am embarrassed to say that I didn't even realize you had written a search tool for ISEGRIM. It looks like it takes a lot of the pain away from the usage of the database for those of us who like "for Dummies" front-end interfaces. Thanks! I've bookmarked it and am sure I'll be playing around with it in the near future.
