    Oh !

And although I'm a big fan of Asterix and Obelix since the day I could read, I definitely don't like those "coinlike medals".
    Engraving is basic.
They're billon rather than silver with a 330/1000 silver content only,
They're supposed to be worth 10 euros and legal tender, but nobody's willing to axccept them as payment. You can get them from your local post office, and they're so popular that they feel obliged to advert about them to get rid of them. Should you want to get your money back (especially for the gold ones) the post office would be very reluctant to buy that crap for so much money....:D

    My advice is "stay away"

@Cucumbor and @Severus Alexander I hope you are not disappointed, but all my top 10 coins are cheaper and more common than my Julius Caesar denarius.

You see, this is not a list ranking my coins from least to more expensive, etc., but rather ranking them by which I personally like the best. And for me a coin is much more than just its rarity or price. Design, eye appeal, preservation, and my own personal likes of the ruler or historical period in which the coin was struck will weigh a lot in determining a coin's ranking.

Hint: I'm a sucker for 3rd Century Imperials.

Also keep in mind that my Julius Caesar was one of the first coins I bought this year, so more recent coins might rank higher because you know...the "new car smell" is clouding my objectiveness. I think it's only natural for one to be more excited over newer things more than things they have had for a while.

That, I had already understood, and I do the same. I was only impressed you might have bought ten coins this year that you like more than this one :)

You seem already tired with it. I would gladly help you :D

    HONORABLE MENTIONS

As we get ready to do the Top 10, its time to honor some "also-rans" that came close to making the Top 20 23 list but fell short.

OK, so we are at top 26 now, right? Print me up my license to post! ;)

Amazing silvering on that Const. II! (Or has it been added later?)

It's the lighting on the photo. The patina is really a light chocolate brown.

Your countdown list is awesome Sallent! Cool JC! Sulla was cooler though!:p
Shoulda never taken that trouble maker off the proscription list. In JC there was much a Marius!

Of course had Sulla had good old JC proscribed then I would be missing a cool Caesar coin from my collection: JC, Traveling Mint Denarius

That Constantine II is very cool with the 3D crown. T

Great portrait on the Julia Mamaea; I want one as nice as that!

Looking forward to the 3rd century imperials!!!!!

Those of you who have had a discussion about Constantine with me in the past will remember my strong dislike for Constantine. Out of all the emperors in the Roman empire, none is more overrated than this pompous maniac...but despite my deep dislike of this man, I decided not to hold that against this coin of his (which is a beauty), so the coin makes it into the top 10 despite the odious little man who graces the obverse.

Lovely examples of Constantine!! I'll pile on with three favorites I still have photos of---the stylistic differences seem to depict different individuals....

#9: As effective as Dilbert's boss.

He probably thought he was doing a lot, but in reality he was a pretty ineffective emperor. He couldn't keep his Empire from fracturing, and none of his half-baked plans ever quite worked out. But he sure did seem to have a lot of them.

    boss_animation.gif

I'm referring of course to the longest reigning emperor of the third Century crisis...none other than our dear friend Gallienus.
