    Hi everyone

I am new to the forum. Basically, I have come across what seems to be a 1873 Trade Dollar. I have seen a lot of reports that these are actually fake but I am not so sure. Your opinions would greatly be appreciated.

    Thanks

Not an expert, but that doesn't look anything like the Trade Dollars that I am familiar with. More of a fantasy piece than a fake or a fake pattern.

    Those are all proofs.

You "came across" this item. It might help if you told us where.

Edit: I'm waiting for the experts, and I suggest that no one gives specifics if it is indeed a fake. It does not look legitimate to me.

It was given to me as a gift actually. I don't know its origin.

Its a Chinese fake. The wear pattern is all wrong, no toning, soft /mushy devices. Always look at the edge rim area, they are usually a dead giveaway having a grainy appearance.

Thanks for your input.. I figured as much but obviously was curious.

    Diameter : 37mm
    Weight : 25/26 grams (I don't have a decent scale)
    Thickness : 3mm
    Not Magnetic

How many of these were produced, since this wasn't the regular circulating design? (Not all of the patterns, the one that Muzyck is showing.)

    Yup.

    Modern Chinese counterfeit.

    Too bad.

The pigeon on the reverse is the giveaway.

A very common fake. Even in this part of the world (New Zealand).
