    Maastricht Dutch Medal help please?

    Hello Everyone.
    I picked this up recently...

a pretty medal made into a pin or brooch. The photos don't do it justice...but I need some help on its identity.

    Measures 38.5mm, 3mm thick.

It looks like the original reverse center has been erased and re-engraved, then a pin added.

Marked on lower rim C. Jehotte f. (Constant Jehotte Made me)

What I would like to know is:
1.) Can anyone please tell me what this orignally was.....?

2.) Why re-engraved....(is the current engraving a name (L. Spits) and town (Roermond)?

3.) And metal content. It looks and feels like solid silver but cannot find any metal content markings.

Thank you in advance for your help...photos below.

All I can say for sure here is that Roermond is indeed a city ...

Looks like a medal of honor to me. I guess that the city of Maastricht awarded this to a Mr/Ms L. Spits from Roermond (both Maastricht and Roermond are in the Dutch province of Limburg). Another option - if you think that the original engraving was erased, which is hard to tell from the picture - is that some later owner of the medal wanted to use it as a brooch and had the pin added and his or her name engraved.

Thanks Christian for your help. I do think the reverse has been re-engraved and the pin added top be worn as a brooch.

THe engraver actually made a spelling error of the name as it looks like it was was first engraved Spitz.....and then an "s" was engraved over the "z"....you can clearly see both.

Am open to any other help out there.

    Thanks again,
    Tidball
