Either it's major zinc rot or could clip planchet I have no idea this is something new to me but I held it off just in case if not it goes back in the bucket
I am not so sure about zinc rot. Is it possible the it is from a ragged clip from an end of roll strip?
Maybe an impurity in the zinc weakened that area, but the edges are very linear and rather similar, which would indicate to me a physical force such as the 'screwdriver' type of torque. However, the one photo of the reverse shows a badly damaged surface, so maybe force from gravel of a road 'experience'.
Rot!!! This is how they come out of the ground when found metal detecting. None will survive unless protected early in their lives.
Thanks everybody for their comments I appreciate it I had no idea but I figured it was just garbage I hate these pennies
Ever see anyone use a cent with battery cables and arc the penny when dc voltage is hooked up? Kinda like welding with it.
