Today was an interesting day for much of Texas. Much of the state had snow. I have lived in the Houston area for 30 years and I think this is the 2nd or 3rd time measurable (1" at my house) snow accumulated. More to the point we had a coin show. It was a small show, but the snow did not seem to keep folks away. It will be interesting to see how many attend tomorrow. I have te leave early to see a dancing mouse and kitchen item. There were some interesting items. One that is a bit out of normal is a "modern" forgery of a permit signed by Wyatt Earp. The permit is for a business that is only legal in Nevada, so I cropped the pics and title. I chuckled when someone asked if it was real. Mike replied yes and he could get 3 more for the same price, followed by a quick NO. I did find interesting coins to buy. I bought a heart coin for my wife (I am told it is the number 5) and a Julius Caesar Venus / Aeneas denarius.
Kind of strange to see blooming bougainvillea and snow in the same set of pictures. Yep, the "heart" is the Arabic numeral 5. Nice JC denarius! I looked at the pictures, and before reading your full description, I thought immediately that the handwriting on that allegedly 19th century document was all wrong. It's not a very good forgery.
It sounds like you had a great time...and now the snow is about to fall here in the NY metropolitan area but more than a coating is predicted. I LOVE the JC!!!!
Thanks for sharing - 'Houston' and 'snow' aren't two words I'd normally associate! Looks like you had a memorable day, with some some excellent pick-ups. A very nice JC.
Snow? I'm straight up I-35 from you, while we had some ugly cold the last couple of days 23° F with a wind chill of 13°, today is a nice light jacket day. Nice coins to boot
Minnesota is also "straight up I-35 from Houston" I've lived in both Tulsa and Minnesota. I'd take Tulsa any day - 13° windchill is warm for December!
No doubt, the last time I was in Minnesota, Camp Ripley in the middle of January. I never been so freakin cold in my life. I'm from Oakland, California so a 13° windchill is cold to me. Been in Tulsa for about 15 years, I'll never like the weather here.
I was stationed at Ft Snelling in the twin cities in the late '60s. I don't think I've ever been anywhere as cold. Late December 1969 for a three day period, the wind chill was somewhere between minus 30-40 degrees Fahrenheit. I remember having to have a coil water heater installed in my car and plug it in every night to keep the water from freezing. I've never gone back!
