Cool Licinius... I think everyone needs a Licinius IOVI type or two, and then when you grow up to become @Severus Alexander, you add the fancy stuff ;).

This was one of two coins I received from Secret Santa last year (thanks again, SS!):

Wow, You all have some great coins! Thanks for sharing them. It's nice to see all the varieties minted during different time periods. Very Nice! :) Licinius II looks pretty angry in some of his portraits. I will have to read up on him and see what his story is.

    Great OP Licinius!
Licinius was my first ancient Roman coin picked from a an unattributed pick bin at the Tuscan gem show in Arizona. I just could not believe that a person could buy an actual real authentic ancient coin for only $30 bucks!! I now know I overpaid but I look at it as admission to a great hobby and as such am quite attached to it:)
Treated it for bronze disease a year or two ago. Reminds me I need to check in on it:/

I appear to have bought loads of Licinius over the years, both father and son. This is probably due to the relative ease of obtaining pleasing examples for a low budget.

Here is a small selection of my more recent acquisitions of them both.

    Licinius I - Follis

Obv:– IMP C VAL LICIN LICINIVS P F AVG, laureate head right
Rev:– IOVI CONSER-VATORI AVGG, Jupiter standing left, chlamys across left shoulder, holding Victory on globe and sceptre; eagle with wreath at foot left
    Minted in Alexandria (_ | Wreath over B over N / ALE). A.D. 314
    Reference(s) – RIC VII Alexandria 10 (R2)

I have a general like for Mars types. Licinius Mars types seem slightly harder to obtain.

    Licinius I - Follis

Obv:– IMP LICINIVS P F AVG, laureate head right
Rev:– MARTI CON-SERVATORI, Mars, helmeted, in military dress, cloak over right shoulder, standing right, holding upright spear, point downwards, resting left hand on shield
    Minted in Ticinum (* | _ // ST). A.D. 314-315
    Reference(s) – RIC VII Ticinum 13 (Rated R3)

    Licinius I - Follis

Obv:– IMP LICINIVS P F AVG, laureate head right
Rev:– MARTI CON-SERVATORI, Mars, helmeted, in military dress, cloak over right shoulder, standing right, holding upright spear, point downwards, resting left hand on shield
    Minted in Ticinum (* | _ // PT). A.D. 314-315
Reference:– RIC VII Ticinum 13 var (Unlisted officina - Example noted on NotInRIC)

Trier seems to give rise to a whole host of decent grade, low budget examples.
    Licinius I - Follis

Obv:– IMP LICINIVS P F AVG, Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right
Rev:– GENIO POP ROM, Genius standing left, modius on head, naked but for chlamys round waist, left hand holding cornucopiae and right hand holding patera
    Minted in Trier (T | F / BTR).
    Reference(s) – RIC VII Trier 119 (C1)

    Licinius II - AE3

Obv:– VAL LICINIVS NOB CAES, Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right
Rev:– IOVI CONSERVATORI, Jupiter standing left, holding thunderbolt and sceptre, chlamys spread across both shoulders
Minted in Arles (//T Star in Crescent A.)
Reference:– RIC VII Arles 160 (R3)

I would like to add to this thread this heavily pitted Licinius I coin, with Cyzicus mint mark.
This mint is not listed in wildwinds for this type of coin.

I have always found Licinius I & II to be among the more interesting emperors. Some really nice examples in this thread.

One of the first ancients I ever bought was a Licinius from Sisica with a Princ Perp reverse:
