Searching rolls of 1,5,25, I always keep anything ANYTHING that looks different. I have these things stashed anywhere.. coat pockets, drawers, etc. I am collecting a group to send for grading.. and I cannot find these 2: a (63 I think) Jefferson nickel that has what looks like SMOKE coming out of the chimney, and a (92 I think) Lincoln cent with a die crack on reverse, looks like LIGHTNING STRIKE hitting the upper right corner of the memorial building. The cent also has a strange pair of identical shapes lightly raised between 2 columns of the monument. The shapes are identical and definetly from the die contacting something before being mounted. I cannot tell what it contacted. I can't get a good picture of it with my cheezy equipment. Should I tear the house apart, or just wait till they turn up? In the back of my mind I sorta have this dream that theres undiscovered treasure lying around here.. in these things that I "save" :/
You know how it is when you lose something. I am missing a penny book too, the first one Quit looking for it and it will turn up!
I gave up looking years ago. If you didn't stash it in your garbage can it will turn up. Mine always do. Drawback? Sometimes I find things and can't remember why in the hell I kept them in the first place. Now THAT'S annoying.
If you find my 1917 (?) $1 note that is in unc, still with a price tag of $175, will you let me know? I misplaced that in a move....Mike
Don't go nuts. Intresting pieces, but don't use them to put a down payment on a house, or a car, or a candy bar.
I should have realized that this would eventually happen. Good to know I have company. I won't sweat it thanks. I imagine some of you have this other problem too.. I seem to keep paying double for things I like. a can't resist a shiney proof IKE dollar.. or a handful of worn-out 40% silver no matter the price. What's yours?
Found them!! posted pics and discussion in the error forum a couple days ago.. they were in the ol spot under the bottom dresser drawer.
