Here is a very nice 1899-O Morgan with a couple of dings on the reverse. Taking the two dings into consideration what grade would you put on this coin using whatever grading standard you're comfortable using. Take Care Ben
I'd say MS-63 maybe even a 64, depending on how hard the hits are on the M&E of America are . Nice Morgan !
I'll have to say MS65. Taking into consideration the dings of course and the fact that this coin was minted in New Orleans, who were well known for producing weak strikes.
Although the obverse seems to look like a 65, I would have trouble grading the coin that with the digs on the reverse, so would probably grade the coin 64. All IMHO, and thanks for sharing...Mike
Nice Morgan Dollar Ben....very nice! I took a guess in my head (which is pretty empty), before I read everyone's guesses. I figured MS-65. I guess that I was pretty close to what everyone else thought. Getting pretty good at grading those Morgan Dollars! Thanks for posting Ben! swick
Thanks for all the answers folks. As you can see this coin is raw and I've marked the flip MS-63 based upon others which appear to be in the same condition. As Indian Head pointed out he New Orleans mint was notorious for having weak strikes but this one seems pretty good. Thanks for all the opinions Ben
If it wasnt an O, i would go 63, but since it has a very nice strike for a big easy dollar, I give it a 64.
MS64 all day long. What marks it does have aren't in focal areas, and it looks to have a fairly clean cheek. Nice coin bone. :thumb:
