Hello, I came across this coin earlier today and noticed the C in CENT was nearly worn off, while the ENT was still intact. My only guess would be that someone intentionally grinded the C off with a dye grinder or something. What do you suppose happened here? Thanks, Karl
Since the circle in the same area is also very weak the cause was very likely due to a grease filled die.
50 cent error i may be wrong i read in the charlton guide that a good few may have been struck with a grease filled die. am i wrong ? im not sure
exactly as greg says, a grease filled die has caused the mis-striking, but it is not a genuine error. and worth no more than a normal 50cent from the same year.
