Notice on craigslist some gold offered...1909-s MS62 NGC for $1320, 1908 MS64 PCGS for $1350 and 1907 MS61 PCGS for $1320 I know squat about gold. Are these good offers?
I'm assuming these are double eagles. If so the price is on the lower side of average. With the slump in gold prices recently, a lot of dealers have been holding on to them.
Gonna assume your talking about $20 Saints? 1909-S common issue/condition, 1908 with motto or without? With motto has a much lower mintage and would be a great buy. But I assume it's a without and again a common issue/condition. 1907 If it's a Saint and not a Liberty, I'm going to assume it's not a high relief or wire rim so again a pretty common/issue condition. The prices are pretty average right now as the market on these is pretty flat for common coins.
FWIW: 1909-s MS62 NGC: Greysheet $1,275 (asking $1320) 1908 MS64 PCGS: Greysheet $1,330 (No Motto) (asking $1350) 1907 MS61 PCGS: Greysheet $1,300 (asking $1320)
I would personally just go to a LCS. They should have similar items in stock for a similar price and you can look through and pick out your favorite and not have to worry about any Craigslist related issues. Unless that 1908 is With Motto the Craigslist guy is just offering common date stuff you can find readily. Just my opinion.
It does add a bit. Personally, *I'D* be nervous spending that much money buying from Craigslist. You have to worry about getting robbed (or worse) and then there is always counterfeit coins, counterfeit slabs, etc. Good luck, be careful, and let us know what you decide.
$1325 on ebay is actually closer to net 1275 with ebay bucks and CC rewards and you're protected as a buyer. Something to keep in mind.
You should be able to look up the slabs on ngc and pcgs site. Offer the seller $50 each off his asking and meet at a secure location of your choosing for inspection. Bring the tools needed to check if real deal coins.
I would not touch a coin, much less a gold coin, from Craig's list. There are too many legitimate ways to market a coin. Unless it is in a TPG holder run for cover.
Common date gold graded as high as MS63 (and anything lower than that) usually sells for about 10% (give or take a bit) over melt.
