Forgive me if there's a thread exclusively for this book already. I'm sure there is. About to open it up and thought it would be fun to discuss. Any thoughts before/as I embark?
Now all you need is a copy of "Strike It Rich With Pocket Change" and you will have a valuable library. JUST Kidding!

Honestly, I'll tell you my real opinion of the book: I own it, I read it. He actually does a pretty good job going through the science of it, and does some pretty interesting experiments. However, he approaches it with an extremely anti-toning, pure-blast-white-coins-only bias. I've never read a coin book with such a strong bias. Mr. White (if ever a name was appropriate...) considers all toning and patina to be damage, and is quite disparaging on the subject. Towards the end, the book reads more like a commercial for Intercept shields (which I don't think are even made any more). So, take the book for what it is, understand its biased, and learn from what you can. (Most of) his science is good. If you want a counterpart, read about the subject from a different viewpoint in my book, linked in my signature below.
As with most reference books, take from it what you can, but like has already been suggested, verify, verify, verify. And since I've no affiliation, here's the suggested link... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1492356107?tag=petetdavi&creativeASIN=1492356107&pldnSite=1
Yes, it is offered as a counterpoint for an alternative view of toning and eye appeal. The book by White can be found here (I didn't realize there was more than one edition - the OP has shown the first edition, which I also own. I'm not sure what has changed in the 3rd edition here): https://www.amazon.com/Coin-Chemistry-Weimar-White/dp/0971392412
No. Weimar White wrote an explicitly pro-white-coin book called "Coin Chemistry" as shown in the OP. I wrote a book that goes through the science of toning and eye appeal (as one of the facets of the "science" of grading coins), with a somewhat pro-originality bias. Both are linked in this thread. I suggest people read both for a balanced viewpoint.
Now now all books are use full. They uncover all the secrets to look for in this case right? And if it’s cold you don’t have to burn any of your good books. And to be clear I mean just the Chemistry book shown in the first picture. Don’t lamb baste me please!
Here's a download for the book by White... https://outpipinq.firebaseapp.com/a...preservation-by-weimar-w-white-0971392471.pdf
Thanks so much guys. So I have first edition? Big bucks someday! Anybody know if theres much difference between mine (first) and whatever the most recent edition is? Same content? And I'll look into the toning book too I've been really interested in how to go about getting those pretty rainbows on my silver! Thanks!
I always end up at these book download sites. Are they legit? I feared they were just Trojan Horse doors. Or are you trying to give a virus to whomever wants to clean and/or preserve a coin? Lol
