In May I announced an educational site on "year 5" coins of Severus Alexander (222-235) at Alexandria, Egypt which are interesting for being minted at two different mints and in two different years. (Check out the site to see how that can be.)

    http://augustuscoins.com/ed/SevAlex/

It was announced with this thread:
    https://www.cointalk.com/threads/severus-alexander-year-5-coins-for-alexandria.296559/

At the time it was missing the best type. I added it today:

    SevAlex4100205.jpg
A KAI M AVP CEOVHR AΛEΞANΔPOC EVCEB
Imperator Caesar Marcus AURelius SEVERUs ALEXANDERVS Pius
L ΠEMΠTOY MAMEA CEB, bust of his mother Julia Mamaea right
    Fifth year. Mamaea Augusta
    Sear II 8134. Emmett 3113. Giessen 2424. Curtis C311 (but year 4) and D422.

The site has quite a bit on reference works. If you are interested in coins of Alexandria, you might be interested in the references even if Severus Alexander is not your favorite emperor.

Do any of you have any "Roman style" coins of Alexandria for Severus Alexander? (He was the only emperor to mint them.)

Now THAT is an awesome coin. I want one of these Rome mint issues, but they are pricey...

Looks great and a much higher portrait/engraving quality than the usual tets. Wish I had one.

I almost bid on that one but decided I did not need another even if it was the best type. (Translation: too cheap, but I still prefer the local Alexandria style.)

Perhaps we should mention that there are year 4 Rome coins and year 4 from Alexandria. Emmett lists with a ? only one coin as Caesar from year 4 but that could be a reading error. Below is my year 4 from Alexandria. I assume the EVCEB is hidden under that patina at the bottom.

The OP is just fantastic!! And Doug's posts are terrific too!! I'd love any one of them!

I almost had one from Alexandria and I'm still kicking myself for letting it get away from me:grumpy::sour:

Wow, that went for a mighty fine price. I think you were right to wait for the next one! (Is it worth paying over 3x as much for slightly better than the second finest known? ;))

Indeed. Thanks for taking the time to put that together. Appreciate the effort you and others in the community have put into building websites, doing detailed write-ups, and so on.

Indeed, that is a question we all must ask. In many cases the answer is yes. The new Triton catalog is filled with coins listed as 'best of two known'. It will be interesting to see if people care for a 'best' that is only fine or holed. It is a fact that there are unique coins that are not mint state and many people who have no interest in them for exactly that reason. Rarity means nothing. Demand everything.
