Domitian with his Pegasus

    I'd sworn off denarii for a while, but this is another bargain that came in over the weekend. I took a gamble on a poor quality photo on this one, and I think it paid off. Interestingly, Pegasus almost looks like he has a horn here.

    Rev: COS IIII, Pegasus stepping right
    18mm, minted at Rome in 76 AD, RIC 238

    EDIT: I forgot to include this. Here's a shot of the flip it came in; can anyone decipher the writing on the bottom right, and what it might mean?

    Cool Pegasus!

    I think the word is "Bourgogne". A collector's name, perhaps? Provenance?

    The Unicorn-Pegasus is a rare variety, but not unknown... :D

    On a serious note, nice coin! I've always liked this type, which revives one used by one of Augustus's moneyers.
