Wow, interesting story. It just makes you think "how cool would it be if I found something like that one day". Thanks for sharing green . Thanks, Jacob
Wonder what the prices are going to be for these would like to grab a piece some day. I'd imagine the coins already out there from this wreck are going to take a little hit with these additional ones hitting the market.
By coincidence, I caught a repeat episode of Pawn Stars in which a guy wanted to sell one of the gold double eagles from the SS Central America graded by PCGS. Rick declined saying that its value may be lessened if they happened to find more of the treasure in the future. Chris
'“The initial focus will be the gold coins coming to market,” he said. “That’s the largest piece of the treasure as a group value-wise.” He believes there may be “some very unusual, rare coins” among them, but that won’t be known until they are curated. The coins include 710 Philadelphia Mint gold coins, 1,956 San Francisco Mint gold coins and 216 pioneer gold coins.' Going to be interesting to see just what's in there and how it may impact some rarities.
I had to sell it. Times were tough. We ran out of cat food, turtle food and TP all at the same time. What could I do? Thanks green18 for the link. I need to sign back up for coinworld.
Looks like might almost be time for a Second Edition of "Ship of Gold." I haven't read it, but it tells the story of the Central America. It was written in the late 90's though, so there's a lot of catching up to do! https://www.amazon.com/Ship-Gold-De...rd_wg=YLMXB&psc=1&refRID=WCBWCQ2HZ32PATWK219B
I have seen prices drop dramatically over past years. With these new 1857-S Double Eagles, prices will drop to... MS-66 7K MS-65 4K MS-64 3K Even at those revised prices, still over valued Recently, a MS-65 CAC sold for 8K.
