    I'm happy to announce we are reaching the halfway mark in our game. I imagine that many of our members will start to get this thing figured out over the next two rounds. I would be interested to hear everyone's thoughts on coins 1 and 2 along with your guess if you think you are starting to figure it out. If you would like to review the previous rounds or take a look through the prize coins you can catch up here.

    Anonymous Coin #3

    Anonymous_Coin_3.jpg
    Roman Empire
    Julian II. AD 360-363.
    AR Siliqua, Lugdunum (Lyon) mint, struck AD 360-361.
    Dia.: 18 mm
    Wt.: 2.23 g
    Obv.: FL CL IVLIA NVS P P AVG, pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right
    Rev.: VICTORIA DD NN AVG, Victory advancing left, holding wreath and palm frond; LVG
    Ref.: RIC VIII 212; Lyon 259; RSC 58†c. Good VF
    Deep iridescent toning, Ex Harptree Hoard IRBCH 1424

    Why I included it in my collection:
    On a hot summer day in 1887, a little more than 130 years ago, a workman searching for a new source of water for the nearby village of East Harptree thrust his spade into the boggy ground and was rewarded with the sound of a resounding thud. He had stumbled on a hoard of ancient silver buried no more than 6 inches under the ground in a lead container. The coins were buried sometime around the year 375, most likely by a merchant trying to save his wealth from the coming of some catastrophe we can only guess at. This coin was among those discovered on that long ago day in Victorian Britain and it shows Julian II, a ruler best known for being the only Roman Emperor after the conversion of Constantine I to renounce the Christian faith and return to the ancient Roman gods. In the end it is in my collection because even though it is a relatively common type it has an uncommonly neat history (less than 15 years unaccounted for) and eye appeal to spare.

    How the Game Works

    The object of the game is pretty simple: Guess which CT member the above coin belongs to out of the five participating members.

    @FitzNigel
    @Curtisimo
    @H8_modern
    @zumbly
    @Severus Alexander

    There will be 5 total game threads and at the end I will hold a drawing to select 5 winners from those who played the game. Participants can earn multiple chances to win based on the following rules.
    1. Guess who the owner of the coin is and give a reason why you think that. (Ex.: I believe that this coin belongs to Curtisimo because he likes that kind of ancient coin.) This is the minimum requirement for entry into the drawing. Please include a reason with your guess!
    2. Anyone who posts a photo of a coin along with their guess (related or not) OR gives a particularly well thought out or amusing reason why you guessed a certain person will receive an extra chance to win.
    3. Anyone who guesses correctly will receive an extra chance to win
    4. Anyone who is a young numismatist (age 18 or younger) will receive an extra chance to win. If you are a YN please say so in your entry post.
    In total there can be up to 4 chances to win for each member in each thread!

    A Note to our Selfless Members!

    Many of you may not feel comfortable entering a giveaway because you would rather see the prizes go to a less experienced collector. That is a very admirable sentiment and I am prepared to make arrangements so that all of our members can feel comfortable playing and entering. This series of threads is more about having fun than about exchanging coins and I want as much participation from our long time and experienced members as possible. If you end up winning and you would rather the prize go to someone else you can either designate that person or allow me to choose on your behalf.

    A Note to the Volunteers

    If you would like to follow along with the results of the poll feel free to vote for yourself.

    A Note to Poll Voters

    I have been asked some questions about voting in the poll. The intention is that the poll is just for fun and to track general trends and comments only are entered into the drawings. If you voted in the previous polls and want to be entered in those drawings please PM me.

    My vote is @Severus Alexander because this is a time period he likes...at least it seems that way based on other coins he's posted.

    For a coin, I'm going with the Phillip II that was just identified:

    I believe the coin is from @Severus Alexander.

    Why? His collecting style.

    I'm going to go with Severus Alexander as well, since that is what most of the guesses are so far, and since he just posted that sweet Darth Vader Pic. Awesome Jullian II coin by the way!

    @Severus Alexander because late Roman coins are one of his collecting foci.

    And to go along with the Roman theme, here is a grumpy-looking Aurelian.

    My vote goes to @Curtisimo because I seem to recognize your very personnal writing style in the "why I included...." paragraph

    And the coin. Why this one ?
    Because there's a dude casting his vote on it (we have encountered more silly reasons than that, so, why not ...)

    I choose H8_modern because why not? He's a rockin' dude and H happens to be the 8th letter in the alphabet and that's good enough for me!

    Here's a completely random coin:
