Wondering LMC 1979 D mint mark

    Was putting a shinner 1969 d cent in grand daughters coin book. We noticed that one d was directly under the 9. While the other was in the middle of the 9 and 6. More towards the 6. Do these coins normally vary in mint mark position. P.S. do all memorial cent vary this way. I don't do pictures.

    They were punched into the dies by hand up until 1989, so what you describe is perfectly normal.

    You gotta do pictures or it bloody didn't happen........ devil.gif

    And yes, positions of mint marks could change at that time because they were physically punched into the die.
