I have three wine colored pennies and I was wondering if anyone knew what causes that. Also I have a 1968 penny where Lincoln's image is so pressed out it looks 3D. What's the phrase for that? Thank you, Tom.

Strong probability that it's environmental damage. Copper is a very reactive metal

I love to keep Abes in different colors as long as its the metal and not paint or some other contaminant on the surface. I pulled some today just cause I always do I keep everything so into the colors box they go.

Well, since it looks like a horse's hoof, I called it "A kick in the arse.". Some people might prefer "A swift kick in the pants."

    Chris

PS. By the way, I sold it for $1,000.

I like crack head good name. Miss Liberty’s cheek looks like a Gemini space capsule.

I don’t sell but I would have sold that one for a grand for sure. Nice windfall!

Honestly, I wasn't even thinking about selling it. I got this in the 2005-S Silver Proof sets from the Mint. Originally in 2005, it was graded by NGC as a PF70UCAM Mint Error, but Mint Errors were not included in the census. Then in 2012, it was added to the CPG as a variety, FS-901. So, I resubmitted it to NGC for the attribution because varieties were included in the census. It became the Top Pop (with no others). About two months later, a buyer's agent from California contacted me with the offer. It was the first time I had ever submitted a coin which became a Top Pop, but I really couldn't resist the offer.
