My mother has this silver coin and wishes to sell it but, although we know it's a rare and valuable coin, we have no idea of what price should be asked. Nice pieces. I know nothing about the Charles III medal, but do have some inkling about those 50-reales pieces indeed being rare and/or valuable. I would strongly recommend sending that one to NGC for certification, to protect both parties. I see no red flags personally, but you'll want an expert TPG opinion on a coin of this caliber, with Chinese counterfeits getting so dangerously deceptive in recent years.
Thank you, that was fast! The problem is that I'm from Spain and sending the coins to NGC would be quite difficult as well as expensive (what with customs and insurance and so on)
Forgot to mention: the coins has been in my family for at least 4 generations, so no chance of they being Chinese counterfeit
PCGS Europe in Paris, then, maybe? It will be worth the effort and expense to have it certified, I think, because that will vastly expand the market for it and thereby make it potentially much more valuable. I suppose they will need to put in an oversized holder. I've never seen one in person, but I gather these 50R pieces are great huge things, yes?
Oh, and that's good news anout the family provenance, particularly if there is any kind of documentation. Congratulations on having an awesome coin.
Alternately I suppose you could consign it to a reputable auction firm rather than submit it to a third-party grading company. That would also boost buyer confidence.
Oh, yes, they're huge.. and heavy! Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have a look at PCGS Europe. It might be a good excuse to visit Paris again
I would say that if sending them for grading is prohibitive for whatever reason, a good auction firm should be a choice. I would imagine they are located or look for items in many places.
