Every once in awhile there is a discovery worthy of that discovery and worthy of being shared. My research has made such a discovery. This trivia article will now reveal that discovery to you. I hope you will enjoy reading about this find as much as I did when discovering it: The idea creating this unique coinage, I'm about to reveal, came about because of a coup that usurped the birthright of Rama II to ascend to the ruling throne of Siam. The powers behind the throne decided to empower Rama III into rulership. Of his many accomplishments, Rama III simplified the minting of Siamese coinage. His idea created the Siamese "Bullet" money. Different sizes of silver "Bullets" were created and folded over. After folding, the "Bullets" were struck with punches whose dies held the engraver's artwork of Chakra and Prasat, Dok Mai and Monkut monetary symbols. Pretty intelligent for the early 1800s. Rama IV kept up the coining process and added larger denominations (2 Baht & 3 Baht) and gold "Bullets." Here's the silver "Bullet" Money coins: Match these denominations to the "Bullets" in the photo Sik (1/16 Baht), Fuang (1/8 Baht), Salu’ng (1/4 Baht), 2 Salu’ng (1/2 Baht), 1 Baht (2 examples) of Rama III, and 2 Baht and Tamlung (4 Baht) of Rama IV. http://imagedb.coinarchives.com/img/cng/075/enlarged/75001340.jpg Here's the gold ones: Match these denominations to the photo: 1/2 Gold Baht, 1/8 Gold Baht, 1/16 Gold Baht. http://imagedb.coinarchives.com/img/kunker/078/04370q00.jpg Did you enjoy learning this? It was on eBay. There was only a couple of bids. After looking at the completed auctions and reading your thread, it definatly warrants more research.
