I want to say MS64. Okay, I'll say it! MS64......but it could be MS63. I never could figure out what PCGS was thinking with the old rattlers. Chris
Pictures are a bit hard to tell, but the obverse looks a but chattery. The luster looks very nice though and I have the feeling it's a PL coin. I'm going to say MS-64PL. The coin looks to have a very nice strike...which isn't super uncommon for 1898-O. That year sorta runs the spectrum of strike quality and I would say this is definitely on the higher end.
This coin is a very good strike but IMO the Obverse has too much chatter to allow better than a MS63. The Reverse is definitely PL with very nice attributes. The image makes it hard for me to give this a PL as the Obverse is the limiting factor.
Definitely lousy pictures. Shot it with my iPhone at night, as opposed to using my good camera. Coin looks a lot better than poor photos, but I wanted to post it.
Thanks. I think it is appropriately graded. Most of the experienced Morgan people got it right. Hard to grade PL coins from photographs. I kind of telegraph what the Morgan is from my buying preferences, for anybody that knows that I like PL coins.
It can be really hard to tell. I figured I was in the ballpark...but pleased to see that I got it right LOL. Lovely coin.
Thanks. I have three that I will post that are an interesting dilemma. All are graded slightly differently, and to me look like they should have gotten the same grade. Sometimes, when it is really close, TPGs don't get it right. PL is a perfect example, and high in one grade versus low in another grade is also a classic situation.
