It has bugged me for years. I still cant tell if it is a real coin or not. I heard somewhere this might be a fake, but a very old fake. Some hundreds of years to be exact. Ancient fake or just some modern fake? Or actually real?
Perhaps "replica" is a more charitable word. It might have come from a museum gift shop. It doesn't look like it was intended to deceive anyone.
To be charitable, this coin is so obviously not genuine that I don't think it was intended to be deceptive. It was probably created to be a keepsake/souvenir of some sort.
Paduans have been discussed in this forum before: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/my-paduans-or-aftercasts-of-them.258953/
no, i doubt its a "real live" paduan..not made by the master(s) but a reasonable facsimile thereof...
Welcome to the Ancients Forum, @ChristopherCollectsCoin ! Check out this website at VCoins for some examples. I'm not an expert but—the details on your museum replica coin don’t match-up with the ones that are known to be authentic. https://www.vcoins.com/en/Search.aspx?search=true&searchQuery=judaea capta vespasian&searchQueryExclude=&searchCategory=0&searchCategoryLevel=2&searchCategoryAncient=True&searchCategoryUs=True&searchCategoryWorld=True&searchCategoryMedieval=False&searchBetween=0&searchBetweenAnd=0&searchDate=&searchUseThesaurus=True&searchDisplayCurrency=&searchDisplay=1&searchIdStore=0&searchQueryAnyWords=&searchExactPhrase=&searchTitleAndDescription=True&searchDateType=0&searchMaxRecords=100&SearchOnSale=False&Unassigned=False
I literally don't know a thing about ancient coins. But, this way too smooth and perfect, and the color is off. Looks just like a toy pirate coin I got when I was a kiddo
