The brick itself would likely be worth a small premium to some collectors. Higher premiums for fancy serial numbers and star notes.
I think that's the only fancy number in that brick. If the brick were mine, that number would have been replaced by a star note.
You can sell them by the pack on eBay and make a few bucks. If you do open the pack check each pack for star notes. I have found quite a few rare first printing star notes within the last ten notes in each pack when they are in there. You do not have a full pack of star notes in there as the straps are a different color scheme when they are all star notes (100 consecutive). All the bricks of $2 notes I get are from NY also. I am always tempted to try ordering from different states when I travel (like west coast) but then I'd have to carry that block onto the plane, which would be okay as long as TSA didn't expose it for all the world to see.
Here is what to look for in a sealed block of bills. The straps will look like this instead of a solid green stripe on the band.
Keemao, Thanks for the tips. Since I dont have a full pack of star notes, I'm inclined to keep the brick sealed. Maybe I can find a buyer locally here in the Pittsburgh area. If I end up really needing the cash I could always open it, look for star notes, and deposit the rest.
Just out of curiosity, how did you acquire that? I know that out here where I live it would be impossible to get even two $2 bills in sequence.
My father is a collector of notes and he acquired from a Wells Fargo bank branch mgr he was friendly with. He lives in Las Vegas. He gave it to me a few years ago as a gift when I visited him. I brought back to my home in PA via aircraft with carry on luggage, no problems through security.
I am surprised he got a block from New York out in Las Vegas. I would have thought he would get SF or Denver. Wells Fargo is who I have my new note relationship with.
Try your local bank. Many order new bills for Christmas so you might be able to get some for you at face. If you have a Wells Fargo there check with them. They all order new around this time of year to sell to customers for Christmas so even if you don't have an acct. with them check and I bet they would sell them to you.
I just found 2017 A Pennsylvania(C) $2 Star note bundle which is also fancy serial number. How much is it worth? I see one bill going for around $20 currently on ebay(bidding)
Me neither. If the OP needs the cash, I would offer to buy a pack out of that brick with a reasonable profit to him, of course.
I don't know how or what you did to get the brick. I bank with a Credit Union and I have asked for uncirculated $20's and got a whole bunch of static that they only have what the security company delivers. I wanted to find out how I could do it so I wrote to the President of the Credit Union as well as others in the upper tier of management. That was 2 Christmases ago. About 2 weeks ago, I cashed a large check and could not believe it. I got 16 $20's in sequential order. It makes me wonder if they told me the truth earlier.
