I have a 1963 six pence. Did a search on eBay for Great Britian six pence. Two sellers describe their coins as silver. Question: Is this coin silver? If so what percent? Thanks.

It is not silver - copper/nickel.

    Thank you

Thanks. Just another case of misleading ebay sellers. I guess silver color qualifies as a silver coin!

The change of alloy from silver to copper-nickel has been made in 1947. Before this date the sixpence were minted in 0.500 silver (In 1920 the change was made from sterling silver 0.925 to 0.500 silver).
