Hi everyone, I just bought this one raw, not in hand yet. I'm not a variety collector per say, but I have always wanted one. I don't see how an engraver could make this mistake :), maybe a few nips while working? http://www.pcgscoinfacts.com/Coin/Detail/1150 1828 12 star half cent obv.jpg 1828 12 stars half cent.jpg

I wonder if the same person engraved the 1817 15 star large cent and the 1832 12 star half eagle. Definitely a neat variety.

If it was it would have to have been an assistant engraver. Robert Scott was engraver in 1817 and William Kneass was engraver in 1832.

I received this one today. Did the Verdi care treatment for 30 minutes or so and the verdigris is history. Looks pretty good. I notice what I presume is a die chip at 7 o clock on the reverse. 12starhalfcent 003.JPG 12starhalfcent 006.JPG
