I owe a big vote of thanks to @randygeki for helping me obtain this coin. It is a milestone for me as it completes my mint set for FTR horsemen for Constantius II. It is dog ugly and I had to pay more than for 90% of my other FTRs but it still fills a nice gap. Constantius II - AE2 Obv:– D N CONSTAN-TIVS P F AVG, Pearl diademed, draped, cuirassed bust right Rev:- FEL TEMP RE-P-ARATIO, Helmeted soldier to left, shield on left arm, spearing falling horseman; shield on ground at right. Congratulations Martin completing a set! It must be a great feeling! These are all I have: RI Constantius Gallus Caesar 351-354 AE21 FEL TEMP REPARATIO soldier-spearing-fallen-horseman RIC 348 Siscia RI Julian II 360-363 CE Fallen Horseman AE3
I got my first Constantius II falling Horseman from Antioch mint. Its in the mail now. I want to start an Antioch mint set of those.
I don't have one of Constantius II from that mint, but I do have one of Constantius Gallus from Antioch. Typical uncleaned lot material, though, as far as state of preservation. Nonetheless, it illustrates well the FH4 reverse type in RIC viii, in which the "horseman falls forward on neck of horse": Constantius Gallus, AD 351-354 Roman billon maiorina, 3.49 g, 22.4 mm, 11h Antioch, AD 352-353 Obv: D N CONSTANTI-VS NOB CAES, bare-headed, draped and cuirassed bust right Rev: FEL TEMP RE-PARATIO, Soldier spearing horseman falling forward onto neck of horse; ANAI in exergue Refs: RIC viii p. 523, 141; RCV 18995; Cohen 17; LRBC II --.
I actually have another FH on the way, but will share it for different reasons when it arrives. Congrats on finishing the set.
Congrats Martin!! Very glad you got and, and a little jealous I still think Amiens is the scarcer mint, but more have popped up lately than Trier.
Trier was also my last mint. This AE2 was Bridgnorth hoard. AE3 barbarous? I'm not sure what this one is. This Gallus is technically large enough to be an AE1 due to the boardwalk margins. Trier is tough but I still prefer Amiens which is no easier.
Congratulations on completing the mint set @maridvnvm I have only one FTR horsemen to contribute, which also came from the Bridgnorth hoard.
Congratulations on finishing your fallen horseman set for Constantius II. I like all the Fel Temp types but have none yet - my end goal would be to have a nice one of each of the five types - I don't know if I'd have the wherewithal to complete a mint set. Good job!
I still have Thessalonica, Trier and a Barbarous example to complete a Constantius Gallus mint set. Same mint order as above.
