This "note" is wrapped tightly in plastic and in an old envelope labeled Shinplaster. Can anyone identify further? Thanks
No, it is Continental Currency, a Fugio note. If you can unwrap it, you can sell it here in the For Sale forum, if so inclined. I'd buy it, looks like a good example.
I have unwrapped it w/o damage but see that it has a major crease through the center of the note. The signer's name looks like Jos. Nedman but I haven't been able to see any 1/3 dollar notes on eBay or elsewhere with his name on it. Does anyone know if Nedman is a signer and what the value of the note would be?
Creases are not uncommon on these notes. Better pics without Saran Wrap would help, but I am inclined to say it's a good $100 note...
"Shinplaster" is generally a term applied to fractional currency or obsolete notes that were hardly worth anything. They were so cheap you'd might as well soak them in starch and apply them to sore ankles.
