Was going through a roll of quarters today and came across this one. Opinions Please, Keep this one out or throw it in the rest of the pile. The only thing I can find on a 76 quarter is a DDO. Had reservations about even posting this. Ken
Edited: OOpps...I thought that was @panzerman's car! Sorry. But still, I like this coin and how could it hurt to keep it?
More than 1.6 billion of these were produced by the Philly & Denver Mints, and because the design was a complete change from the standard Washington quarter, this coin was hoarded by millions of people. Chris
LOL @ Hommer Im with you.......Ice cream sounds pretty good right now. Ive been throwing the bicentennials back for the grandbaby, shes 2. Maybe when shes fifty she can go buy ice cream with them. I just thought this one was kinda cool. My first thought was MD myself but then started looking at the corners. Either way its different from the majority of the 1.6 billion. Ken
Hello Ken. As aforementioned, it is mechanical doubling and high mintage, but still a cool little coin to have since you don't find them that often in circulation. Individually, they may not be worth more than face any time in the foreseeable future, but if you can put rolls together then maybe someone would be willing to pay a premium. Another factor of value is condition. I'm inclined to believe there are many in original rolls and sitting in vaults out there, but even with that thought, if you can find any in high grade then value should be higher than face. By "high grade" I mean MS65 or higher.
