I bought some plastic cent holders for some really old cents that I have..
Early 1900's and late 1800's. I got them in the mail yesterday. I put a cent in one
of the holders and it was a nice hold from side to side, but noticed if I flipped the
holder upside down, I could feel the cent moving...Not much, but there is a gap
inside the holder so the cent will move a little up and down....Not side to side
but up and down...Should I use these? I had thought about putting the coins / holders
inside a coin book on a plastic page, but since the book will be moving especially when
I turn the pages, I don't think that would be a good idea....I would certainly
appreciate any advise you can give me and thanks ahead of time. 100_2812.JPG 100_2814.JPG 100_2815.JPG 100_2816.JPG 100_2816.JPG

The coin is harder than that plastic, and the plastic isn't abrasive. It may sound bad but I don't see it hurting the coin.

Try a few more cents and see what you get. What brand of holders? Wear is a factor but that 1965 cent should not rattle around.

Thanks Idhair, I am just using that 1965 to "test" the holders out...I am going to
put a bunch of late / middle 1980's and early 1900's in them...There is no brand
name that I can see...But I do know they come from china...

This will largely depend on the coin. Plastic absolutely can cause issues, but I too wouldn't worry much about it with the type of circulated material shown.

I'd like to know a little more about the plastic; is it PVC based?

Another question Please, how would you clean these coins? Acetone? I would think no but not sure what to use

Don't try to clean them in any way. Just put them in the holders.

    I agree.

And low grade cents will not be harmed by those holders.

If you had Proof or Gem Uncirculated items, it might be a different story.

It might be wise to treat the verdigris, especially on that flying eagle, before you put them in the holders.
