What relevance does the other sections have to DDR?

Why is it that with every coin that gets posted here, someone calls it a variety?
    What's wrong with that?

The real question should be: I'm glad people are helping folks out with their images, to get the right variety .

And they are wrong 50% of the time. When questioned, they say they had it wrong and call it something else. Nothing but a bunch of guess work.

I personally check the variety sites first and then match my images .
I figure the more I ask for images, folks will learn how to take them correctly and that helps out everyone .

    That's not a question, Rick; it's a statement. ;)

And yes, I too am glad folks are willing to help others, just as I'm willing to bet Larry feels the same way. However, all too often someone rushes to a conclusion as if unquestionable fact when their claim is based upon incomplete information, and/or made without taking all factors into consideration. This may not matter much with near zero premium varieties or when such coins are going into an album (if we ignore the side damage that can be done to the individual), but rarely if ever is it asked what the person's goal is.

I can think of at least a handful of instances over the years where someone just had to play expert, insisting a coin was X variety, and often attacking anyone who questioned them when they, in fact, were wrong. In each case the OP, wanting to believe they had something of value on their hands, believed what benefited them and rushed off to eBay to list as what they were told. One that comes to mind was an 1867 5C claimed to be an RPD (simple strike doubling) and a 71-S 1C Pr DDO (strike doubling as well). When this happens not only is the seller opened up to unnecessary risk, especially since most in this situation are newer and have lower FB numbers, but buyers are open to getting screwed, which is one of if not the biggest reason for people walking away from this hobby.

My greater point here is that a number of us really need to slow it down some. Personally, I will not state a coin is something unless I know it to be fact, and I can do so as if my own money is at risk (and I'm VERY cheap). Perhaps, if more took this approach, this forum as well as those coming here for help, would be the better for it. Just friendly food for thought...

That's why their called " New Bees " and I can deal with it .
I think this new bee, is just new to the forum and not variety collecting .. and he's come to the right spot ( forums ) for taking and learning on
" How To Take Images Correctly " ..

The guy has started a total of TEN threads in his time here, which represents a full 1/5th of his entire post count, with each and every one of them being on a potential variety or error (9 variety and 1 error) but he's not a variety guy and is instead interested only in imaging? I'm sorry, Rick, and no offense, but.... OY!

Yea I’m new to the forum not errors or varietys. I just have never looked at ddrs on wheat cents and needed help with other coins. It’s also kind of hard for me to match up the ddrs but yea you helped me with taking the right kind of photographs and I found another pretty strong DDR that I matched on variety vista just now.

I know your not a new bee to variety collecting and that's what I said
( post 28 ) . I have no ideal why book quoted my post and said, I said, you were new to variety collecting and everything else he quoted me saying ( post 28 ) .

    Fake News ( post 29 ) ...

Why are you being so hard on this guy, what's he done to you ?
He hasn't tag you, or asked you for help ?
No disrespect, but what's it any of your business, what he posts or asks .

I don't mind, so why should you ?

My initial posts had NOTHING to do with this guy, Rick! Until the last post I hadn't mentioned nor even referenced him, and only reason I ended up doing so was in direct response to you.

For Christ's sake, man... this isn't rocket science.

I'm not sure how many images the OP has taken since he started collecting varieties . As for the rocket science, I'm most be the scientist .

Hopefully OP will catch on and become a good scientist too ..
