Still sitting at home "unemployed" waiting for 3cm. of snow to melt/ so I can finish my Fall cleanup leaf cleanupso_O

So with all of idle time, I found a neat unsold lot to add to my coll.

    France/ House of Valois
    AV Ecu d'or 1er type 4.56g. 28mm. MS-61 2668102l.jpg
    Mint/ Point 19= Saint Andre de Villeneuve-les-Avignon
A/ + KAROLVUS DEI GRA FRANCORVM REX
R/ + XPC VIHCIT XPC REGNAT XPC IMPERAT
    Charles VII "The Victorious" 1422-61
    obv. Crowned Arms of France
rev. Floriated Crooss in Quadrilobe/ Crown in Angles

Charles VII was lucky that "Joan of Arc" arrived on the military scene, helping the French to regain most territories lost in previous battles to the English invaders.

I am fairly certain they are the same person -- and it is absolute proof of time travel.

Man, if time travel was possible, I could be at any minting center/ anytime period to snatch up freshly struck coins, my first stop would be 1621/Warsaw/ for a gorgeous 100 Dukaten Sigismund III / 2 pieces struck for "presentation" for "Victory over the Turks at Chocim" coin is to die for:happy: Sad to face reality:(

And you could buy gold at $80 an ounce and warn grandparents not to buy gold plated state quarters for their grandchildren's collections!

The above is an interesting survey of the question. I remember $35 and really remember Nixon. If Watergate had happened a couple years earlier, might we still have $35 gold?

If you go back in history....
The first AV Florins/Dukats were struck circa 1200-1300AD/ weight in gold was 3.48g./Yugoslavia struck 4 Dukaten/ 1 Dukat coinage till 1934/ weight was still 3.48/9g. More recently the 1850 USA Double eagle contained 33g. og gold/ last ones in 1933 same weight.Gold was pretty well same price per oz. until 1934. In the 70s it went ballistic/so did inflation. After FDR removed gold coinage from circulation/ confiscated it from private citizens/ started printing paper currency/ inflation set in/ then the government began printing more paper dollars then gold reserves. So, now they are in debt 20 TRILLION DOLLARS++++just Federal debt:inpain: Add State/ Municipal/ Personal....Quadrillion? Moral of this story/ world without plastic/paper/bitcoin would equal more stable economies. The Ancients were correct in ONLY striking gold/silver/copper coinage. Plus they are way more fun to collect.

An important reverse type illustrating the principle of provocatio, a procedure by which a citizen had the right to appeal to the people against the decision of a magistrate which he considered to be an abuse of official power.
@panzerman you are right that we would have more stable economies if governments balanced their budgets, but inflation is not new. During the second Carthaginian war, the Roman As went from over 300 grams to under 50.

my largest struck As is just under 50 grams
